New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Part 8 - Lecture and Demonstr ation of Creating Additional Databases

Part 8 - Lecture and Demonstration of Creating Additional Databases - view details
In this final video in our series, we will take a look at how to add a new database to our existing Exchange cluster, as it sometimes neccesary to create new databases so they don't get too large in size. Grant's lecture includes a discussion on database sizes to help decide how big your databases should be.

Highlights from this video:
  • Why is it now neccesary to have multiple databases
    • Restoration times and database recovery
  • Recommended sizes and structures
  • Building a new database and storage group
and much more

New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Placement of Public Folder Da tabase: Discussion and Demo

Placement of Public Folder Database: Discussion and Demo - view details
When you're running Exchange 2007 in a clustered configuration, you have several options for handling your public fodlers. If all of your mail clients are Outlook 2007 or above and you have no use for public folders, you can actually do away with them becasue Outlook 2007 does not require public folders to be available, however, previous versions do. Outlook 2003 and so forth expect to make two connections - one to the mailbox database, and one to the local public folder database - in order to open the mailbox. If you are going to continue using public folders, you'll need to evaluate how you want to handle them.

This video discusses the placement of Exchange Public folder Databases - either on the Cluster Continious Replication Nodes, or on Normal Exchange Servers and allowing traditional public folder replication to occur. At the end, the instructor demonstrates how to move the Database and Storage Group files into better locations

Highlights from this video:

  • About using clusters and public folder databases
  • Where is the ideal place to put my folders?
  • Creating a new public folder storage group and database
  • Review of how to move a database and storage group
  • Building your folders and populating the information
and much more

New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Part 7B - Moving the Storage Group Files to a Different Path

Part 7B - Moving the Storage Group Files to a Different Path - view details
If you're not getting clean backups or are running low on storage space, you might consider moving your storage group to a different path that will make it easier for troubleshooting etc. In this video in our long series, Grant will cover how to do just that after you move your database.

Highlights from this video:

  • Suspending storage group replication and dismounting databases
  • Logical move of the storage group in active directory and hard disk
  • Making sure everything worked in the end

and much more

New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Troubleshooting a Failed/Prob lematic Exchange Update

Troubleshooting a Failed/Problematic Exchange Update - view details
Occasionaly, an update to Exchange fails or causes some unexpected problems. In this case, Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup 2 has likely caused Outlook Web Access to fail. Watch as your expert instructor walks you through a un-install and re-install of the Rollup, and gives some guidance when troubleshooting the
un-expected, including examination of the ExchangeSetupLogs folder and log files, Exchange Services shutdown during updates, and more!

Highlights from this video:
  • Tracking down the error
  • About the ExchangeSetupLogs folder
  • How to repair the update

New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Configuring IMAP4 and POP3 on Exchange 2007

Configuring IMAP4 and POP3 on Exchange 2007 - view details
Since the days of Exchange 5.5, Microsoft has used Outlook as the primary mail client for talking to an Exchange server. But what if you have users who'd rather not use Outlook? What other e-mail collection protocols are available? Users can choose to use POP3 ( Post Office Protocol version 3) or IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol version 4). These protocols aren't as dynamic and flexible as Outlook is when talking to an Exchange server, but can lead to some if not most of the Outlook functionalities.

In this essential video, Grant will walk you through the configuration and setup of these services and explain thier properties

Highlights from this video:

  • IMAP vs POP
  • Enabling the IMAP4/POP3 services
  • About service properties
    • Binding
    • Authentication
    • Connection
    • Retrieval Settings
  • Connecting a user to a POP3/ IMAP4 server via Outlook Express
and much more

New Exchange Server Video Tutorial: Part 7A - Moving a Clustered Database to a Different Disk

Part 7A - Moving a Clustered Database to a Different Disk - view details
When building a cluster, you usually try to minimize the changes made during the installation. Once the cluster is up and running iswhen you'll actually go an make the production changesneeded like moving the database files. In this video in the series, you will take a look at where current database files are and then move them into the actual production position that we want them to be in. Ideally this is done early on in your deployment of Exchange clusters, that way your databases are relatively small, and will move quickly.

Highlights from this video:

  • Building a desirable folder structure in your drives
  • Requirement of clustering
    • Paths
  • Suspending replication and dismounting databases
  • Using the Move database command in powershell
and much more
